All Washed Up is a new Brisbane-based music blog, dedicated to bringing you the latest in album reviews, gig reviews, music news and interviews.

GIG SPOTLIGHT - NEON INDIAN (USA), YesYou and Argentina - THE ZOO - THURSDAY MARCH 1st
We here at The Washup castle are looking down at many amazing gigs slowly starting to rear their heads over yonder horizon. One of which is the Cobra Kai Club on March 1st featuring the ever popular Last Dinosaurs with The Jungle Giants. BUT - let’s say perhaps your partner has a massive crush on the lead singer of either band (you wouldn’t want to encourage them, would you?), or maybe you just feel like some chill electronic beats rather than indie rock that night. Well then I have something for you!
Neon Indian all the way from USA, supported by locals YesYou and Argentina (band not country) at The Zoo (music venue not place to tap on animal enclosures)! Haven’t heard of any of them? Well brilliant, because I intend on telling you all about them whether you like it or not.
Argentina is the solo project of a very talented producer and songwriter by the name of Alex Ritchie. He has been building a fan base with each electronic bleep from his keyboard/computer. As stated on his FACEBOOK page, an EP will hopefully reach the light of day in the near future as well as a slew of live shows, although he’s already been making the rounds in Brisbane and impressing all the fine young folk. Also available from his facebook page are three tracks for your ears to enjoy. He plays a really interesting cover of an “An Horse” track, and you can also check out his rather ridiculously catchy track Bad Kids. It’s a bit MGMT, a bit dreamy synth pop and a whole lot of awesome.
Now for your enjoyment I present YesYou, an interesting blend of indie/folk and electronic synth. I’m not quite sure why I want to add a reference to Architecture in Helsinki here, but I think it needs to be said. I’m sure there are reasons… Getting way too excited and need audio info now? Then drag your mouse here and feast your senses on their soundcloud or check out their facebook. Their catchy lyrics and un-nameable influences are sure to show you an amazing live show.
HEALTH + Animal Collective + Crystal Castles with a dash of LCD Sound System is one way I could begin to describe USA bred Neon Indian. For the uninitiated – they released a rather creepy/fun/electronic video for their single Polish Girl which you can check out here. What else can I say about this band which you can’t hear in their wild video clips? They’ll make you dance, they’ll make you cry – it’ll change your life. But with all seriousness – I’ve had my ears on these guys for a long time and I really can’t wait to dance to them in physical form. If you’re at all into their sort of tunes, judging from their past gigs, it’s going to be an awesome night; especially because of the other amazing local talent warming up the crowds before them. Oh and before I forget – stay up to date with Neon Indian on facebook.
If you’d like to check out more details about this gig, head here. If you go to the zoo – or decide to head off to see the amazing Last Dinosaurs - at least make sure you get out and spend some money on awesome musical talents!
